Membrane Canopies for Surabaya Projects
Surabaya has the mix that makes a membrane structure worth considering: strong sun for most of the year, humid coastal air, and a deep commercial and industrial base. To be clear from the start, AeroSpan has no completed project in Surabaya. This page is not a local portfolio. It sets out how we deliver Surabaya projects from our workshop in Bogor, and when the numbers actually work for you.
Heat and humidity on the East Java coast
The difference between Surabaya and the highland cities is radiant heat. Concrete, asphalt, and metal roofing around an outdoor area soak up heat all morning and give it back until evening. Metal roofing heats up with them and radiates downward, so people underneath still feel it even with cover overhead. Membrane fabric blocks direct sun while passing diffused light, so the space below stays bright without turning into an oven. For cafes, waiting areas, and drop-offs, that is the thing clients mention first once the structure is up.
The second factor is sea air. Sites near Tanjung Perak, Kenjeran, and the warehousing belt in the north carry more salt onto steelwork. For those locations the steel coating system needs to step up a level, and that call gets made during design, not during installation. The same goes for fabric slope and rainwater paths. Wet-season rain in Surabaya is heavy and arrives fast, so drainage direction and gutter positions are fixed early, before any pocket of standing water can form mid-span.
What gets built with membrane in Surabaya
- Entrances and drop-offs for malls, hotels, showrooms, and office buildings.
- Cafe and restaurant outdoor areas, including rooftops and front terraces that need shade without going dark.
- Parking canopies for offices, apartments, hospitals, and retail.
- Loading bays and walkways between warehouses in industrial estates such as Rungkut, Margomulyo, and Tandes.
- School grounds and community sports facilities.
How a Surabaya project runs from Bogor
Our fabrication finishes in the Bogor workshop, then the completed steelwork and membrane travel to site. Distance changes logistics and scheduling, not what we can build. The sequence: once the first estimate is agreed, a survey team flies to Surabaya to measure, check existing structure or ground conditions, and document site access. That survey feeds the 3D design and the structural calculations. After you sign off on the design, the steelwork is fabricated and the fabric is cut to pattern at the workshop.
Delivery to Surabaya goes overland, normally by truck along the Trans Java toll road. Distance is only part of it. Component size drives the rest: long steel members decide the truck type, how the load is strapped, and how it is protected in transit. Membrane fabric is packed separately so the surface does not get scuffed. The install crew follows and stays near the site until the work is done, which removes the dead time of travelling back and forth. Because everything arrives ready to assemble, time on site is far shorter than for conventional roofing shaped in place.
Project size and mobilisation cost
This is the part that gets awkward if it comes up late, so here it is early. There is a minimum project value that applies nationally, and for sites outside Greater Jakarta the material transport and crew mobilisation are quoted separately as their own line. The official figures live on our rate card. The honest consequence: a single home carport in Surabaya rarely adds up, because the cost of getting there is much the same as for a job several times larger. A commercial canopy, a restaurant terrace, a building parking canopy, or several structures packaged into one site visit is where the maths works.
If your requirement is small but sits close to other spots on the same property, bundle them into one package. That is the most effective way to shrink the mobilisation share per square metre.
Where to start
Send rough dimensions, site photos from a few angles, and a short note on how the space gets used, all on WhatsApp. That is enough for a first estimate without anyone flying anywhere. The Surabaya survey gets scheduled once the design direction and the budget line up, so the trip is genuinely useful. Workmanship, materials, and a membrane warranty of up to 15 years and a 1-year workmanship warranty are identical whether the site is next door to the workshop or at the far end of Java.
Frequently asked questions
Does AeroSpan have completed projects in Surabaya?
Not yet. The projects we can name by site are in Jakarta, North Jakarta, and Tangerang. Surabaya is served as an out-of-region project: a survey visit, fabrication in the Bogor workshop, overland delivery, then installation by our own crew.
How much extra is delivery and mobilisation to Surabaya?
It is calculated per project from material volume, the truck type needed, and how long the crew stays on site. Those items appear as separate lines in the quotation, and the nationally applicable project minimum is on our official rate card page.
