The Membrane Installation Process
Many first-time clients imagine installing a membrane canopy is like pitching a big tarp: show up, stretch, done. In reality, most of the work happens before the crew ever reaches your site. Here's the full sequence at AeroSpan, so you know what happens in each phase and what you'll need to prepare.
1. Consultation and survey
It starts with a WhatsApp chat: you send the area dimensions, site photos, and a rough idea of what you need. From that we can already give a ballpark estimate. If it fits, the team surveys the site to measure precisely and check existing structures, equipment access, and ground conditions for foundations.
What you prepare: site access, plus ownership or permission details if the location isn't privately yours.
2. Design and structural calculation
Our engineers shape the design, then run the numbers: wind loads for your location, rain loads, and fabric tension. Out of this come the frame specification, foundations, cabling, and the fabric cutting pattern. You receive design drawings to approve before anything gets produced.
What you prepare: decisions. Shape changes after fabrication starts are expensive, so this phase is the time for revisions.
3. Quotation and contract
Our quotation details the scope: fabric material and brand, steel spec and finishing, accessories, installation, and warranty. Anything outside scope (special foundation work or demolition of an old structure, say) is written out explicitly. Once agreed, your production slot is locked in.
4. Workshop fabrication
The steel frame is cut, welded, and finished at our Bogor workshop. In parallel, the membrane is cut to a computer-generated pattern and welded panel by panel. Fabricating in the workshop rather than on site is the key to precision: membrane tolerances are tight, because fabric cut a few centimetres off pattern will never reach its design tension.
Fabrication typically takes two to four weeks depending on queue and complexity.
5. Installation
The crew arrives with the frame and fabric ready-made. The sequence: foundations or anchors, frame erection, then fabric installation and tensioning to design values. A home carport usually goes up in days. Wide-span commercial projects can take one to several weeks, depending on scale and site conditions.
What you prepare: a clear working area and, for commercial buildings, work-permit coordination with building management.
6. Handover and warranty
Before handover we check fabric tension, bolt torque, weld and finish quality, and water flow. You receive a tested structure with a 10-year Agtex membrane warranty and a 1-month installation workmanship warranty. After that, upkeep is light; see our maintenance guide.
Total timeline?
From survey to installed, carports and simple canopies generally run two to four weeks. Mid-size commercial projects, one to two months. Large multi-structure projects are phased. Ask us for an estimate on your case; we usually answer the same day.
Frequently asked questions
Will installation disrupt my business operations?
We schedule installation around your operations, including staged work or off-peak hours for cafes, offices, and public facilities. Most of the work is already done in the workshop, so time on site is relatively short.
Do I need to arrange foundations myself?
Not necessarily. Foundation and anchor requirements are calculated in the design phase and can be included in our scope. If you have your own civil contractor, we supply the technical drawings.
Want a timeline estimate for your project? Send dimensions and site photos on WhatsApp; we usually reply the same day.
